SCHOOL’S OUT AND THE YMCA IS IN – OCTOBER 6-10
Here’s a great way to keep your kids active and happy during the October 6-10 fall school break. Sign them up for the YMCA Fall Intersession program, available at YMCA branches throughout Oahu, including a new soccer camp at the Nuuanu YMCA and overnight and day camp at Camp Erdman on the North Shore. EWA BEACH COMMUNITY EVENTS – OCTOBER 11 and 30
Weed and Seed, a YMCA program, will be holding two free public events. On October 11, come to Children’s Fun Day at Holomua Elementary School from 10 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. On October 30, wear a costume to the Halloween Bash at Ewa Beach Community Park from 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. Weed and Seed is a 10-year old program that “weeds” crime out of designated communities through law enforcement collaboration and resident community policing groups, then “seeds” these communities with revitalization efforts. SPOOK-TACULAR CAMPING – OCTOBER 31 - NOVEMBER 2
Halloween weekend marks the final family camp of 2008. Come join us at YMCA Camp Erdman for a spook-tacular good time and bring your family out for a weekend of thrills and chills. Activities include swimming, arts and crafts, archery, kayaking, trick-or-treating, a haunted house, the Alpine Tower, the Odyssey, kids-only activities, and much more! 5TH ANNUAL HALLO-WINE – NOVEMBER 1
The Windward YMCA will hold its 5th annual wine tasting and silent auction fund-raiser from 5:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. at Koolau Golf Club in Kaneohe. Hallo-Wine is a costume-optional event that raises money for the YMCA’s financial assistance fund, which subsidizes registration fees for children, teens and adults. Our families need your help. ALOHA UNITED WAY CAMPAIGN – YOU CAN DESIGNATE TO THE YMCA!
If your workplace is holding their annual campaign for Aloha United Way, think about designating your gift to the YMCA. As a partner agency of AUW, we have been assigned a designation code. All you need to do is write in our agency code which is 96580 on your pledge form in the agency designation portion.Your gift will then be automatically designated to the YMCA and will be used to provide financial assistance and program support. THE JOY AND BENEFITS OF DANCE – NOW AT THE YMCA!
The benefits of dancing for all ages are extensive, ranging from improved social skills and confidence, to enriched health and mental well-being. Plus, it’s just plain fun! Classes for children, teens and adults are available at: Atherton and Nuuanu (hula), Central (ballet, jazz, street), Kalihi (hip hop) Leeward (hip hop, jazz) and Mililani (ballet, hula, jazz, tap). Classes range from beginning to advanced, where many of our students are accomplished stage performers.

TEENS, PARENTS, TEACHERS – PARTICIPATE IN YOUTH LEGISLATURE
Young people are continuing to play a larger and more expanded role in politics, especially in this year’s exciting national elections. Locally, middle and high school students can get directly involved in the legislative process through this year’s 60th YMCA’s Hawaii State Youth Legislature program. The YMCA is now accepting applications from students, who will be attending training conferences, writing bills and running for various elected offices over the next several months.
